How Planted Habits handles your data.

Updated October 8, 2026 · Covers app version 1.0.2

The short version

Your habits stay on your device. Planted Habits works local-first. There are no advertising SDKs and no cross-app or advertising tracking. There is no account to create for the core app, and your habit data is not sent to JPott Studios.

Network processing happens only when a feature that needs it is used: verifying a purchase with the app store, optional encrypted sync, optional remote notifications, or anonymous usage counts and app-use reports after you say yes to sharing.

What Planted Habits stores on your device

The app keeps the following in private app storage on your phone:

These counters stay on the device unless the anonymous usage feature below is both configured and left on.

Anonymous usage counts

When optional sync is configured for the build, Planted Habits can send anonymous usage counts so we can see how the app is used overall and improve it. For example, how many times a habit was created or completed, plus the app version, coarse platform (iOS, Android, or web), and how many days the app has been used.

These numbers are tied to a random per-install tag (a value generated on your device) that is not linked to any account, email, phone number, or device identifier. It identifies an install so the same device is not counted twice; it does not identify you.

This never includes your habit names, notes, schedules, reminders, garden data, photos, or anything you typed. Only whole-number counts, the coarse signals above, and the anonymous app-use and crash reports described below are ever sent.

It is off by default. The app asks you once whether to share anonymous usage, and nothing is counted or sent unless you say yes. You can change it anytime with Share anonymous usage under Privacy & data in the app. If the service is not configured for the build, nothing is collected or sent.

On iPhone and Android, the same switch also sends anonymous app use and crash reports to our analytics service, PostHog, in the United States. These show which screens are opened, fixed steps such as viewing Premium, starting or finishing a purchase, or creating an account, when the app is opened and for how long, and what went wrong if the app crashes, together with the app version, platform, and whether the device is a phone or tablet. They use a random tag made on your device, never your name, email, account, habit names, notes, or anything you write. IP addresses are not stored. Turning Share anonymous usage off stops these reports straight away, and deleting your data in the app also clears the random tag.

Optional encrypted sync

Sync is optional and off unless you turn it on. The core app never requires it.

If you enable sync, an account email address, user ID, and authentication records are processed by the sync provider so the service knows the records are yours. Your habit records are encrypted on your device before they are uploaded. Those encrypted records can include habit names, schedules, notes, check-ins, and, if you connect a habit to Apple Health or Health Connect, the fitness automation setting and resulting habit progress. The underlying Apple Health or Health Connect history is not uploaded as a separate data feed.

You can delete the service copy from the app's sync settings or delete the account and associated service data. See the data deletion guide.

Purchases

Planted Habits Premium is available as monthly and yearly subscriptions plus a one-time lifetime option. Apple or Google processes the payment and provides purchase information. The app uses RevenueCat to fetch available products, validate receipts, restore access, and check whether Premium is active.

JPott Studios does not receive your payment-card details. RevenueCat and the app store may process a store receipt, product identifier, purchase status, country or storefront information, and an app-user identifier. See RevenueCat's privacy policy, Apple's privacy policy, and Google's privacy policy.

Optional remote notifications

If you allow notifications, Planted Habits may register an opaque push-delivery token with the studio's service so it can send an occasional app notification. The registration includes a random per-install tag, platform, and app version. It does not include your name, email address, habit content, advertising identifier, or profile photo.

The token is used only for app functionality and is sent through Google Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android or Apple Push Notification service on iOS. You can turn notifications off in device settings. Local habit reminders stay on your device.

Permissions

PermissionWhy
NotificationsOptional habit reminders that you schedule. You can decline this, or turn it off later in device settings, and the app still works.

Planted Habits asks for your photo library or camera only if you choose a profile photo, and reads steps and exercise from Health Connect or Apple Health only for habits you connect. It does not request your microphone, contacts, location, or calendar.

Exports and backups

You can export a backup at any time. Your device then offers destinations such as Files, email, messaging, or cloud storage. JPott Studios does not receive that file.

Planted Habits backup files are ordinary JSON and are not encrypted by the app. They may contain readable personal content, including your notes. Store and send them carefully. Once you save a file somewhere, that destination's own terms and privacy practices apply.

Keeping and deleting data

Local data stays until you delete items, use an in-app clear-data control, replace data during a restore, or remove the app's data from your device. Operating-system backups and any copies you export are controlled by you and the platform you chose.

If you enabled sync, the app provides a control to delete the service copy. See the data and account deletion guide.

Children

Planted Habits is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. JPott Studios does not knowingly use the app to solicit personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided account information through sync, contact us so we can investigate.

This website and the desktop version

This website and the desktop (browser) version of Planted Habits count visits anonymously so we can see what helps people. Each page view, or tap on a store button, sends a small note: which page, whether the device is a phone, tablet or computer, and on the first page of a visit, the name of the site that sent you here (for example Google or Instagram). It uses no cookies and stores nothing in your browser, and we do not keep your IP address or anything that identifies you. The notes are kept in our own database, hosted by Supabase.

Our web host, Vercel, also counts visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and does not follow you to other sites. Like any web host, Vercel handles standard request details such as IP address, the page asked for, browser type and time, for security and delivery.

Google Analytics helps us see which articles and pages are read and which app links are used. It runs in cookieless mode: Google consent mode is set to denied for analytics and advertising storage, and we do not show a cookie prompt. Google Analytics does not read or write analytics or advertising cookies on this website. It still sends limited measurement signals to Google, including page views, events, page paths, referring pages, device category and the denied consent state. Because Google Analytics cannot use cookies or a persistent visitor ID, repeat-visitor and session reports may be limited. The browser still sends measurement requests to Google; Google says GA4 uses IP addresses at collection to determine location and discards them before the data is logged or stored. Google processes these signals under its own Privacy Policy. The anonymous first-party counter and Vercel Web Analytics described above also use no cookies.
